Couples & Individual Therapy for Relationship Issues

Navigating Marriage & Relationship Troubles

In every relationship, there are natural periods of growth, change, and challenge. Whether you have been married for decades or dating for months, you may be experiencing issues that are difficult to address on your own. At Integrative Psychotherapy Associates our experts can help you and your partner explore the challenges that are impacting your relationship.

Through compassionate couples therapy, we will work together to help resolve issues, make decisions, and build a deeper understanding of one another. Our relationship therapists understand how complex issues such as communication, trust, and conflict can be barriers to a successful partnership. We will provide the necessary tools and guidance to help both individuals navigate through these issues in a constructive way.

As the longest-standing mental health group practice in the Tri-Village area with more than a decade of experience, we’re dedicated to helping couples work through their difficulties in a safe and supportive environment. Whether that happens in couples sessionsindividually, or a combination of the two, our goal is to provide the necessary help to make your relationship thrive.

Virtual & In-Person Couples Therapy

Marriage & Relationship Counseling

Couples therapy seeks to aid couples in recognizing areas of conflict and provide the tools necessary to work through them. Our relationship therapists create a safe space for individuals to explore their emotions, identify triggers and behaviors, and build strategies for communication that can be used in the future. Through couples therapy, we can help you:

  • Improve Your Communication: One of the most significant benefits of couples therapy is enhanced communication. Therapists provide a safe space where it can be easier to voice one’s feelings, as well as tools and techniques to help couples express their feelings and thoughts more effectively, promoting understanding and empathy.
  • Resolve Conflicts: Disagreements are inevitable in any relationship. However, how you handle them makes all the difference. In couples therapy, you will learn constructive ways to resolve conflicts, replacing heated arguments with productive conversations and learning to de-escalate when arguments erupt.
  • Strengthen Your Connection: Couples therapy isn't just for those nearing a breakup. It's also an excellent tool for couples looking to deepen their connection. Through therapy, couples can explore their relationship dynamics, understand each other's needs better, and foster intimacy.
  • Experience Personal Growth: Couples therapy isn't only about growing as a couple; it's also about personal growth. It's a journey of self-discovery, where you learn about your patterns and behaviors, and how they affect your relationship.
  • Gain Better Understanding: Sometimes, we get so caught up in our perspectives that we  find it hard to consider our partner's viewpoint. Couples therapy helps bridge this gap, fostering mutual understanding and respect, and cultivate empathy.

At Integrative Psychotherapy Associates, our relationship therapists focus on guiding couples to a place where they can communicate more effectively and gain insight into their own emotions and behaviors. For more information, contact us today. We look forward to helping you!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do my partner and I need couples therapy?

If you are struggling with communication, trust issues, or another conflict that is preventing you from having a healthy relationship, couples therapy may be beneficial. Some of the most common reasons we see couples in therapy include:

  • Frequent arguments or disagreements
  • Difficulty in communicating effectively
  • Infidelity or breach of trust
  • Financial disagreements
  • Differences in parenting styles or family conflicts
  • Feeling distant or disconnected from each other
  • Religious or spiritual differences
  • Conflict around the involvement of in laws and other family members

If I’m going to individual and couples counseling, can I see the same counselor for both?

While our office does offer both individual and couples counseling, we will advise that you see a separate therapist for each. This is because individual counseling is about exploring your own thoughts and feelings while couples counseling is focused on exploring the relationship dynamics between both parties. Having separate therapists ensures that each person's needs are being met without any bias.

Do you offer therapy for relationship issues via telehealth?

Yes! Our teletherapy services provide a secure and convenient way for you and your partner to engage in couples counseling. We offer appointment services via phone and video conferencing, making it easier to access mental health care from the comfort of your home.
